Mineral modules

Connection options for AkVo mineral dosing.

Every AkVo PRO starts with pure RO water. What happens next is up to you: blend back your own tap-water minerals with the built-in screw, or connect one or more dosing modules and design the water for each machine on your bar.

○

Magnesium (Mg²⁺)

Brighter, clearer, more aromatic cups. Adds hardness without the heavy scaling of calcium.

◆

Calcium (Ca²⁺)

Rounder body, heavier mouthfeel, sweetness. Scales hot boilers, so we use it for filter brewing.

■

Buffer

Softens acidity and keeps pH stable, protecting metal parts. Too much makes coffee flat — so we dose it precisely.

AkVo PRO remineralisation with bypass

Blend back your own minerals

The +PPM− screw on the side of AkVo PRO blends a measured share of your tap water back into the RO water. Turn left for more minerals, right for softer water. Simple, with no extra parts — the mineral ratio follows your local water.

Option 1 · one dosing module

Pure water in, a precise recipe out

A dosing pump adds measured amounts of mineral concentrate to the RO water — for example magnesium and buffer. The recipe stays the same every day, whatever your tap water does.

Option 2 · Mg + buffer

One water for espresso and filter

Magnesium plus a bicarbonate buffer, sent to both the espresso machine and the filter brewer.

  • Taste: magnesium brings brightness, clarity and aromatic lift; the buffer keeps acidity pleasant instead of sharp.
  • Machine: no added calcium, so very little scale in the espresso boiler; the buffer also protects it from corrosion.
  • Best for: bars that want one simple, versatile water line.

Option 3 · Mg + Ca + buffer

Fuller filter coffee

Magnesium, calcium and buffer, for batch brew and pour-over.

  • Taste: calcium adds body, roundness and sweetness on top of magnesium’s clarity — a rich, juicy filter cup.
  • Why only filter: calcium together with bicarbonate forms scale most readily in hot espresso boilers, so we keep it out of them.
  • Best for: filter-focused cafés and roasteries’ tasting bars.

Option 4 · two modules

Separate water for each machine

Two modules on one AkVo PRO: magnesium + buffer for the filter brewer, buffer only for the espresso machine.

  • Espresso with buffer only: smooth, balanced shots with softened acidity, and the safest water for the boiler — nothing that scales.
  • Filter with Mg + buffer: bright, clear and aromatic cups.
  • Best for: busy bars that tune espresso and filter separately.
